Tours & Toddies – Conserving the Collection
Join Buffalo Bill Center of the West Chief Conservator Beverly Perkins on March 8th for another deep dive into the care and preservation that goes into our world-renowned collections.
Our Tours and Toddies guests had so much fun learning and engaging with the collection during last year’s Conservation Tours & Toddies that they requested a Part 2. So here it is!
What happens to our priceless artifacts if a natural disaster strikes? Do you have a plan for protecting your precious items? As a certified AIC-CERT emergency responder for cultural institutions, Beverly Perkins coordinated the AIC volunteer response to Hurricane Katrina and assisted in artifact recovery after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, along with several other artifact care and recovery missions during her 38 years as a conservator.
Here at the Center of the West, we believe in preserving the past for future generations, and that’s why this event includes a special focus on safeguarding artifacts in the face of natural disasters. During her Tours & Toddies event, Bev will share the Center of the West’s plan for preserving artifacts if/when calamity hits and even provide tips for preparing for your own recovery relief efforts.
And if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to (literally) piece together history, this event is for you! Attendees will also receive hands-on learning in ceramic conservation at this event.
At the end of the tour, Bev will bring guests back to the Exclusive Tours Depot for additional Q&A, custom charcuterie, and adult beverages.
