MEET CAT HESSELBACHER

Cat Hesselbacher is a local photographer based out of Meeteetse. Her love of photography began like most – with that first camera given to her when she was young. That love has never wavered and increases with each passing year.

Her heart is most at home on a ranch or in the wilds. She is a true country soul. Her work expresses this by capturing everything from rodeos and ranch life to the wildlife and scenery in the Cody and Yellowstone areas. She started her professional photography journey as an Idaho Cowboys Association rodeo photographer. While she still shoots the occasional rodeo, she has expanded her work to focus on her love of nature.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

Cat has been a partner at Open Range Images for 12 years. She believes being in the gallery has pushed her to take her photography further. She is a life-long learner and is determined to get the shots she has in her mind. For “Teton Morning Mist,” she spent three days sleeping in her truck to get the shot. “It’s what it takes.” she says. She also has the patience to wait for the shots that present themselves to her when her goal is wildlife photography.

With “Regal,” – it’s a step closer to an elk shot she still has in her mind, but it is fantastic unto itself. To get this one, she was up with the stars to get into location by shooting light. She captured this and other stunning images this summer and fall, including Elk Crossing in the Mist (header image for this article).

PHOTOS THAT MAKE YOU SMILE

Looking at her work, you will find her light-hearted humor sprinkled in among the stunningly beautiful scenes she’s captured. She looks for the fun in life and captures it well through her lens. People looking at her work at Open Range Images always leave with a smile and often a few giggles as well. That is a rare gift among photographers to find both beauty and the fun. A couple here are “The Sheriff of Tiny Town” and “Photobombed.”
