Where to Eat in Cody, Wyoming – Winter 2023-2024

Did you know there are over 50 restaurants in Cody? I didn’t either. That number includes fast-food restaurants and chains, which weren’t included in this article. A follow-up article may include these later on.
 
Cody, Wyoming, loves food. The town is looking for a delicious and comfortable dining experience. Food trucks have given us several more options and are consistently popular searches on Cody Calendar. But the food trucks have an advantage on Cody Calendar because we need to find where they are – restaurants are in one location and often don’t have “events” to list.

 

So, to make this more even, it was time to pull together a list of all the places to dine in Cody. Then I visited each one to find hours – doing my best to talk directly with the owner or worker. If not, I relied on the hours listed at the location. If you are a restaurant owner, and your hours have changed, just get in touch to get this list updated.

 

WORKER SHORTAGE

There have been repeated reports of restaurants needing more workers (and others who don’t seem to experience that issue). It started to make sense while researching this article. Suppose each of Cody’s 50+ restaurants needs at least a dozen workers. In that case, the number of workers required to keep our restaurants thriving is significant. With workers in short supply, it may come down to higher wages for them – which, in turn, might mean higher prices for the customers. Having excellent and dependable places to dine might be worth an extra couple of dollars per entree. It’s something to consider, at least.

 

In visiting with some restaurant owners about the worker shortage issue, some are getting creative. As you look through the hours, you’ll notice that many close for an hour or two between meals. That can allow for more flexible scheduling and offer workers a better work/life balance. At least one place may occasionally close unexpectedly if someone on their team has a sick child or other obligations. It’s a way of caring for the people that keep them going.

 

CHECK THE HOURS OR CALL FIRST

Yet many people have expressed frustration when finding restaurants closed when they want to dine. This frustration inspired this article. It is challenging to know when restaurants are open. It’s also reasonable to understand that they might close early when there’s snow or empty streets. What business would stay open, paying multiple staff for one or two tables?

 

Given the challenges restaurants have faced since 2020, things have changed. Many restaurants are no longer open all day, every day, making a list of hours incredibly helpful. So, double-check the hours or call them to verify they’re open.

 

For at least this winter, though, one restaurant is open seven days a week from morning to night with no mid-meal closures, and that’s the Irma.

 

WINTER CHALLENGE

The result of this research is a master list of restaurants in Cody with this winter’s hours. Sometimes, we get stuck in a rut of where we decide to go to dine out. It helps to have a list to look at.

 

A friend decided to try every pizza place around to see which one he preferred. This is a good idea for all of us. Finding your favorite sandwiches, burgers, salads, and more could be fun. So, as a challenge, look at this list of restaurants and find a new favorite or two.
